Buckwheat arrived in Brittany and Normandy from the East in the 12th century and has remained deeply rooted in Breton gastronomy. Called the "hundred days plant" because of its short cycle (from June to September), buckwheat was for a long time considered the main food of the Bretons before being a subsistence plant during the numerous fruit crises of the last centuries, which allowed the people to eat their fill in winter.

It is naturally organic and gluten-free, and does not require fertilisers or pesticides. Rich in protein and amino acids, the grain is highly nutritious. It is also excellent for your health as it is rich in fibre and antioxidants.

Today, buckwheat flour is still used to make a typical Breton dish, called "galette de sarrasin" in Gallo country or Upper Brittany, but also "crêpe de blé noir" or "crêpes bretonne" in Breton country or Lower Brittany.
It is this Breton tradition and heritage that we want to share with you.
